The Poetry of Buddhism

To say that I am a “human being

Is to say that I am a human “bean”

Or a Lima bean, jelly bean, Mexican jumping bean

I am not a noun

There is nothing wrong in being human

But that is just the form of my action

Why not name me “a cloud” and label my form and purpose

I am not a noun

Seen by all, no two see me the same way

I mirror the mind of my audience

Only those who still themselves see the tempest in action

I am not a noun

I am vapor riding the gentle breeze

A perceived subsistence without body

When my weight is too heavy for the lightness of being

I shower the world
